Gel Nails

Gel Nails

Long and strong nails are something that are desired by women all over, but are very difficult to achieve naturally. That is why many women resort to using acrylic or gel nails to get beautiful long nails. Many women get gel nails done at the salon, but you can now achieve this look at home, with the innovative at-home gel kits that are available at many department stores and drug-stores. Gel nails can be done in a typical French manicure, a variety of different colors and nail art.

What It Is

Gel nails are a type of false nails that uses an light emitting diode (L.E.D.) to harden the gel. There is soft gel which is used to strengthen the existing nail, and hard gel which is typically used to make the nails longer and stronger using extensions. Gel nails are extremely popular because they last and strengthen the existing nails. Gel nails can last upwards of two weeks. They rarely chip, looking great until your next manicure. Gel nails can be done at home using a variety of new kits which include the gel and L.E.D.light that cures the gel.

How To Use

The way that you apply gel nails depends on the kit that you have purchased.

It also depends if you are adding length to your nails using an extension. If you are using extensions you must make sure that they are filed down to the correct size and shape before beginning your manicure. Often you will have to apply a coat of the gel which often comes in a pot or a nail polish jar. After you have applied the gel you will put your fingers underneath the L.E.D. drying light which allows the gel to harden quickly. You may need to do multiple coats of the gel to get a consistent and thick layer. To remove soft gel polish you can use acetone nail polish remover. To remove hard gel polish you will need to go to a salon or get a remover specifically made for gel nails.

Benefits

The main benefit of gel nails is that they can instantly transform your existing nails, making them appear long and strong easily. They are a good alternative to acrylic nails, which can strip the natural nail, leaving them damaged and broken. Gel nails also last a long time, helping you to save time and money from having to redo your nails. You do not need to go to a salon to remove your soft gel nails, as they come off easily using regular nail polish remover. Gel nails are more gentle than acrylic nails, without creating ridges and spots.

Gel nails are increasing in popularity, not only to add length, but to add strength to the natural nail as well. If you find that your manicures are chipping after only a week, consider trying out a gel manicure.
